I am making a cake for tomorrow and wanted to at least bake it tonight. If I put a thin layer of frosting on it tonight will that be okay? Could I leave it unfrosted and then just do it all tomorrow? What do you do?

I would let the cake cool completely and then tomorrow morning apply the crumb coat. refrigerate for 30 minutes and then apply the other coat. good luck!

I would bake the cake tonight, after it is cooled, wrap it in tin foil or saran wrap overnight. This makes the cake extra moist. Then, first thing in the morning, apply your crumb coat and refridgerate. Actually, you could even apply the crumb coat and refridgerate 15 minutes before you start decorating. Good Luck!

Ditto to GenesisCakes. Either way would probably work just depends on how much time you have as to when to crumb coat. For me...I usually don't crumb coat unless I'm covering the cake with fondant. I simply ice the cake with no problems.

If you wait until tomorrow to ice it at all I would wrap it with plastic wrap. Keeps it super moist.

Good luck!

Thanks! I think I'll bake it up tonight, wrap it and get decorating tomorrow. I appreciate the help you all give me at CC. icon_biggrin.gif

filling and crumb coating tonight would give you ample time for the caketo settle. just something to think about.
