Does almond extract really have almonds in it? Anyone know?
Just wondering if this would cause an allergic reation to someone allergic to nuts or not.
TIA-
Lisa

Pure almond extract comes from nuts and will cause an allergic reaction. The jury is still out on the imitation stuff. A lot of medical websites recommend substituting it, but I found one board where a woman called Durkee & McCormick. One imitation contained nut products while the other didn't. Not sure which is which.

Also, wintergreen extract causes allergies in those sensitive to hazelnuts.

Thank you everyone! i babysat for a little boy today with a nut allergy and this thought just popped in my head ( not that I was going to be giving him almond extract or anything...just wondering) I asked his mother, and she didn't know. Good to know.
