I am making an 11x15x2 cake with 2 mini 3d bears on top. I bought the wilton "show n' serve" cakeboards. Here's a link if I'm allowed to post one:

My questions are:

1) Would you stack multiple boards together knowing this cake needs to be transported? If so, how many?

2) Do I need to put anything between the cake and the board?

TIA!

I would double it myself. I always like to have at least 2 boards under my cakes. I think you can just put your cake on that board without covering. I have never used that kind. I buy the plain ones and cover them.

Hope that helps!! Welcome to Cake Central!!

IA w/Cindy, you can put the cake right on top of the bought board, but if you like....you can always cover it w/wax or freezer paper. I think one cake plate would be fine, just depends how heavey your two bears are, imo, but you can play it safe w/two plates. GL!

I have used those before. They are great because you DON'T have to cover them. They are pretty strong too. I think you would be fine with just the one.

I'd either double the board or put the cake on a board the exact size of the cake and then put that on the decorative board. These boards are thin enough that a single one will flex when you carry it and you'll wind up with cracks in the icing.

I would double it myself, I have had many get hairline "fractures" in them due to the board bending when I only use 1 board. There is no need to cover the board if you don't want to.

I have yet to have a "fracture free" cake when using those cake boards (even when doubled). I prefer foam core boards. They're easy to cut and very strong. They may seem expensive but when you consider using 2-3 cardboards vs. one foam core, you come out ahead. You can buy 1 large board at Hobby Lobby for 3.99. You can cut 2 boards to fit 12" x 18" cakes which makes them 2.00 each. Many customers assume they are "good" boards and return them icon_lol.gif . That makes them even cheaper. thumbs_up.gif
