Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake-What Frosting?

I am planning on making chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter filling this weekend. It is Canada Day on July 1st and I wanted to frost the cupcakes with white buttercream and add a red chocolate maple leaf on top (to resemble the Canadian flag).

Does a chocolate peanut butter cupcake in white buttercream sound like too many flavours and should I just stick to a chocolate frosting?

I think white buttercream would be yummy on top. My only qualification for answering is that I used to be canadian!! And I like cake!!

I made chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting on top, the recipe on CC, and they were a HUGE hit I had tons of requests for the recipe.

barefoot contessa made them with peanut butter frosting but if your planning on adding the leaf id leave them white

My vote would be for chocolate frosting on top, I just can't get enough of it icon_biggrin.gif I am sure they will be delicious either way though thumbs_up.gif

I was going to suggest the Barefoot Contessa recipe, too. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks so yummy! Here's the link to the recipe:

I made a cake last week that was one layer choclate, one layer peanut butter, chocolate mousse filling and buttercream on top. People are still talking about it!!!!! Go for the buttercream.
