How do I make a cake in the shape of a letter C to feed 20-25 people?? Cut it out of a sheet cake? I'm concerned with uniformity and crumbs. . . any advice is appreciated. I need to make FIVE of them!!!

first: welcome to this merry band of cake addicts. be warned: you'll be addcited too.

--------------------

idea one: bundt pan w/ section cut out.

idea two: bake large (14" or so) round, then use small 6 inch round to cut center hole out and remove a piece of remaining circle to get the "C" -- save all scraps and make cake balls (although the little 6 inch rounds could be little sample cakes to give as advertising)

variation of idea two:

again 14" or larger, BUT...take your 6 inch and grease it both inside and OUTSIDE. plunk into middle of 14" fill BOTH w/ batter. got the ring that only needs section cut out and a nice little sample cake too.

I just make patterns and put it on a frozen cake and cut it out. I ice it frozen,.let it thaw and then put on another coat. Just another idea.

Wonderful ideas from both of you! However, I discovered that my horseshoe shaped pan turned on it's side is a perfect size letter C. I'll have to keep in mind the idea of the pattern on a frozen cake though. Thanks for the help! icon_biggrin.gif
