I've had that happen!! If it were me, I'd put it on the bottom layer. Is this only a one tier cake? If you put the cracked layer on the top, there is a change it will pull apart after you decorate and will pull the icing/decorations apart too. If it is towards the bottom, the weight of the other layers may keep it in place.

OK, so you're going to do 4 x 14in layers? Is anything (another smaller cake) going on top of the 14in? I would put this one at the top of the cake if it's just a single cake, sticking back together with buttercream and then doing a nice firm crumb coat and putting that in the fridge to really firm up before finishing the top coat and decorating. If this is going to have to take dowels and other cakes on top of it, I personally would rebake this one layer - I wouldn't want to tempt a disaster! Good luck!

Duih, I did of course mean bottom of the pile, why did I say top (blonde moment!), as this is a stacked cake though, I wouldn't risk using it at all (*especially if this is for a customer - if it was for me, well, I'd probably take the chance!).

If this cake is meant for the bottom of a huge stacked cake don't use it. Make a new layer. It's cracked almost in half and won't have the strength to hold up to the weight of the other cakes.

I know you hate to hear the answer but you rally need to do another one if it's that bad. I tried that once & the whole cake fell apart on the way to the shower. Thankfully it was for a good friend & not a paying customer
