I have seen a few pictures here and PMd one member who is possibly away but I have been asked by a regular customer to make a Armadillo.Fondant is not big here and I do have a pic of a BC armadillo. What pans might I use? where do I begin.....What colors? How about the head....in the BC pic I have the head looks like it id made from a huge round tip squeezed and drawn downward for a longer snout. It only need to feed about 15 people so it doesn't have to be huge!!

I must say that's the "cutest" armadillo I've seen-there are some really scary ones! I don't have an answer, but I'm giving you a BUMP.

I'm thinking to start with 2 wondermold pans put together one end could be tapered into the tail, and the other end tapered into the head. Might be too much cake. But who does'nt like leftover cake???

Hmmm, I think that cake looks like a square or rectangular pan (and I'd say at least 2 layers), carved to remove the sharp corners at the top edges. I think the scales have been done using a petal tip and the face is probabaly one of the really large round tips, or maybe just a coupler (the large one) piped in a big blob and then drwan to a point as you said. The backside and tail I'd guess was done with a ribbon tip.

The colour is a browny grey, my guess is a light/medium brown with a tiny shot of black in it, it's hard to tell though!

All just my guess though, hope the person who made this can get back to you in time! Good luck!

If it were me, I'd bake the armadillo in regular sheet cake pans - a couple of layers high and then shape the body with a knife. I think a grey color is most "armadillo-y". It does look like they used a large round tip for the head - and the rest was with a med/large rose petal tip. Good luck!! You can always try pm-ing the other people with armadillo cakes (the ones you haven't pm-ed already) - the more you try, the more chance of a response! But I bet you can do it just by shaping the cake and using a ton of buttercream icon_smile.gif. Good luck! That would be a fun one to make!

*THINKING OF THE MOVIE "STEEL MAGNOLIAS" not much help in the construction, but don't use a red velvet cake! LOL.... made it look like the armadillo was bleeding!

Hi there! It sounds like you already searched here, but did you find this thread?

It has some links w/instructions. The cakes aren't as cute as the BC one in your pic but maybe the instructions will help guide you.
Good luck!
