Well, some people really like the tilting one. For me, I would only buy that one as a secondary turn table and use it for when I need to put decorations on the sides of cake.
The best one for icing I have used is the metal one from wilton or ateco. It is super sturdy, raises the cake up to a comfortable level, is easy to clean, and spins really smoothly and evenly.
Call me crazy
but I love my cheapy Wilton one. I have a few nice ones that people bought me as gifts, but I almost always reach for the $5.00 (?) Wilton one.
xandra83 I do the same thing! I have a toolbox I use to store frequently used items and if I need my turntable higher I put a piece of grippy shelf liner on top of it and sit my turntable on it.
I have the cheapy low plastic Wilton one and really like it, just wish that it was taller, I'll try putting it on top of something next time.
I like the idea of the tilting turntable too but also heard that many don't like the wilton one. Does someone else make a tilting turntable?
I have an electric one I think it's made by Carousel (sp?) and I absolutely love it. I got it from Sugarcraft about 2 years ago. It has speed adjustment and you can change the direction. It cost me about $120 but I think it was a good investment. It's wonderful for icing the sides of cakes and doing boarders without having to stop and turn the table myself.
