I'm looking to start my website, but really have no idea where to start. I'm only just starting out, and will be very small so the idea of spending a lot of money for someone to design a website for me isn't an option.

Does anyone use a good cheap do-it-yourself type website hosting place??

Thanks!

I use www.godaddy.com. They are very reasonable and have great templates. I use Website Tonite and it is so easy. You can pay month to month or pay for a year or so at a time. I love it!!!

I just recently finished mine through Homestead.com. The program was easy to learn and I only pay $19.99/month for my own domain name - [email protected] and plenty of pages.

I went through Yahoo. I got a website, my domain name and email address for $11.95 per month (I think that is what I pay). HTH

I'm lucky, my hubby is a computer geek by trade, lol. So I actually plan to just use him as my host. icon_smile.gif

I went through Homestead as well. $4.99 for the first 3 months and then $9.99 after that for up to 5 pages. If you want more than 5, then it's $19.99 per month. I found it very easy to use as well.

in a previous life... (before cake)
I toyed with the idea of doing web design, so I just threw up my own pages on freewebs.com.
nothing too fancy, I just wanted to have something for people see until I have more time...
I've picked out my domain name, but I'm currently too cheap to buy it, so freewebs works for me, and since I uplaoded my own index.htm page - there's no ad on it LOL! icon_lol.gif

(if you have a webpage program - I have dreamweaver - then you can design the page almost like working with MS office then just drag and drop it to freewebs.com)

www.1and1.com is what I'm using and I have to say, it's easy to put a page up, took less than an evening AND I had to call customer support for a silly question and not only where they helpful but they didn't make me feel like an idiot for not knowing something very simple.

PLUS IT'S CHEAP!!!

I've always used Yahoo for my e-mail so I kept with them so I wouldn't have to create a new account. Yahoo does offer free web building tools with their service but they are pretty basic. That's why I used MS Expression Web to design my site. I've still got a long way to go but you can check it out at www.thecherrybombbakery.com

I use tripod. www.tripod.com It's through the lycos network. You can use their free sites, or subscriptions start as low as $4.95/month.

I've found it fairly easy to use. My site is:

(no www's)

Good luck! icon_smile.gif

I almost can't believe I'm saying this but you could always start a myspace.com page. They have really cute templates and you could just use it to get a page online and make it all about your photos and cakes. Totally free. Your domain would be myspace.com/ whatever name you sign up with

Currently I use freewebs, http://www.freewebs.com/ohmygoodiesco and I've found mine looks ALOT different from other's website... :-s I guess because I did mine from complete scratch instead of one of the templates. But they have premade templates that are beautiful! and very easy to use, you can also build from scratch as I have, which means you must know HTML pretty well lol. Or have someone on hand that can do the editting for you lol.

I've used Angelfire before, I've used Yahoo/Geocities before, I've used Bravenet before.... there are tons out there that I've tried and I've found that Freewebs is the easiest and the best!

I just wanted to add that I also really like Godaddy.com BUT the website builder they have isn't compatible with a Mac. I had to transfer to 1and1.com because the website builder program they use is great on a mac.

Just thought that anyone else with one might need that info!
