Sorry, I know this question has probably been asked several thousand times, but I just can't seem to get the search to work for me today.
I need to use fondant on a cake (for the first time since the Wilton cake classes 6 years ago), anyway I need to paint (I guess that's what you would call id) on the fondant. I haven't done this but once or twice, and I don't think it was right. It never dried.
Please if anyone knows of a turtorial or just has first hand knowledge of how to do this please help.
I've painted on a few cakes.....and I just use the americolor gels straight out of the bottle and they dry within 5-10 minutes as long as it's not glopped on too much.......if it is....then it will take a few more minutes (don't ask how I know
)........here are a couple cakes I've done with the americolors....see if this is the look you're wanting?
KHalstead, you did a terrific job painting these, they are gorgeous.
khalstead - EXACTLY what I need! Your paintings are spectacular!
There is hope! I will give it another go.
jules06 - thanks for the tip on the powdered colors. I used Wilton icing colors w/vodka before, it dried in the bowl before I was done using it and remained tacky on the fondant.
Khalstead-
How did you get the light colors. I have only tried this once on some fondant figures, but they were all so dark. How do you get the delicate colors????
To make it lighter just dont add as much colouring to your white alcohol
ok, so you always mix with alcohol. I am not drinker, so does that mean clear vodka?

I used the colors straight out of the jars, and when I needed lighter colors I mixed in some white gel color to the other color to achieve lighter shades!
And NO I have NO background in painting whatsoever...which is why I've only done simple flowers lol
