Ok so I am doing my first wedding cake for the 7th ... this is my first ever wedding cake AND first ever paid wedding cake so I am doubly nervous. I am doing it for my spin/group fitness instructor at the YMCA. I have known her for about a year, I spin with her 3 times a week and we used to play volleyball together so although we aren't "friends" we do get along well and see each other quite often.
Anyway when all this started I told her I would work up some samples and bring them up to the ymca for her to taste one morning (also good "advertising" for me because about 10 other people there helped her taste test) and while we were finalizing the fast that I would indeed do her wedding cake she made the comment that the only way she would NOT go with me is if my cake just tasted horrible. Now I KNOW it was not her intention to scare me or hurt my feelings but that made me REALLY nervous that what if she tasted them and really did decide to go with someone else. Anyway she LOVED teh cake so of course I am doing it (like I had any doubt that my cake tasted good LOL)
So today she made another comment that she may have found me another wedding cake to do, but she was going to wait to recommend me until after I did her cake because she wanted to make sure my cake looked good, she said that she told this lady about me but told the lady she would wait until after I did her cake to give her my name because of wanting to see if the cake looked good first. I can understand her reservations about the wedding cake issue. I work primarely with fondant and she wants all buttercream, she has seen my work so she knows I can make a pretty cake but given that I have neverdone a wedding cake I completely understand her feeling a little on edge about the way it will look, although she is all smiles and nice about it but every now and then she lets those little comments slip and all I think is "WHY in the world would you say that to me??" ... oh well, her fiance is actually the one being more picky about the wedding and cake in general so maybe she is just on edge trying to please him? not sure. but it is sure making me a LOT more nervous about htis whole wedding cake thing.
I'm just as paranoid and nervous as you! I would never say those things outloud! Those are the things you say in your head. Sheesh. I can't believe she said that to you!
Sounds like she has the same problem my husband had...a missing filter between brain and mouth....
I always tell him jsut because you think it does NOT mean you can actually say it out loud!
Best of luck to you and I am sure you will do just fine.
Julia
I thought I was the only person in this world that gets comments from "friends" that should never be said! Why do some people have that instinct to belittle and not even give a second thought to it! Unfortunately, I know way too many people like your "friend"!
Press on-and don't let her comments bother you. ![]()
You will do just fine and trust me, she will love your cake! I don't let things like that bother me..........if I hear someone say things like that I just brush it off..............Julia, that is Hilarious.........."A Missing filter between brain and mouth"! ![]()
