Need Idea For 'asian Themed' Cake
Decorating By DesignerCakes Updated 28 Jun 2007 , 1:38pm by CherryBomb
I just received a last minute order from a caterer that I make cakes for. The order is for an 'Asian themed' cake for a Vietnamese physician who is leaving or retiring - not really sure what the story is.
In any case, it's up to me to design it any way I see fit. Any ideas? I'm a a loss. The first thing that came to mind are cherry or apple blossoms, but I am not sure this is fitting for a male. Or is it?
Any suggestions???
I think an Asian style knot would be cool!
You could also do a gold dragon or try to write something out in Asian script.
Thank you all so much for your input. I thought of finding the Chinese symbol for 'luck' also known as Fu. I just haven't been lucky enough to find anything larger than a thumbnail of it on the internet. I'll keep looking. I was thinking red fondant with gold accents since these colors are representative of good luck.
I will post it as soon as I'm done.
Thanks again!
How about a Phoenix themed cake? In the Vietnamese culture
"The phoenix appears only in peaceful and prosperous times, and hides itself when there is trouble. Thus, it is the sign of peace and the symbol of concord"
If he is leaving or retiring, the symbol for peace would be appropriate in asian cultures.
I wish I could do a dragon, but I just haven't a clue how to design one in gumpaste! I wanted a flat, one dimensional design.
Thanks again everyone. I will post as soon as I a done.
