I admit it, I LOVE strollers - more than cakes! gasp! icon_surprised.gif

I have two (well, three, one doesn't count as it's not really mine, just borrowed it from a friend). I have a full sized stroller that I LOVE, but find it's big for my 2 year old's needs now and it feels like pushing a ton of bricks up hills. Then, I have a jogger with 20" wheels which I LOVE for real AT walks, but for city/burb walks, it's a PITB to go up and down and around corners all the time, so... I'm itching to get a nice swivel wheel jogger. I do walk daily, so it would get used, but I could think of a dozen other things we could spend the money on!!! I would have to sell something to get it! LOL (I never dip into family funds for my fun obsession ).

Anyone else a closet stroller lover?

Too funny ... I don't even have kids yet, and I am obsessed with strollers. I am always looking at strollers and even have one picked out for when I finally have a baby!! I was in New York City a couple weeks ago visiting my best friend, and I couldn't stop looking at all of the neat (and expensive!!!) strollers that were being pushed around the city. icon_smile.gif

OK, gotta know which one "tickled your fancy!"

Now, as a stroller addict and stroller snob, I will tell you, those expensive strollers are SOOOOOO worth it, especially if you plan to be at home. They'll get used daily. I know some people say, "Oh, they outgrow them so fast, don't waste your money."

Well, I "personall" believe that's true for baby bedding (that fancy schmancy stuff) and with those super expensive toys and playpens and swings, but I don't believe that holds true with strollers. I mean, if you rode a bicycle every day for 3-4 years and knew that ahead of time, would you settle for the cheap Huffy bike or get a nice one for comfort and ease of use?

But this is where the stroller addict comes in - I also firmly believe that trying to find one stroller that does it all just leaves you sorely disappointed. It will either be too flimsy for outdoors or too big and bulky for indoors. Personally, I think MINIMALLY a person should have one lightweight and one full feature stroller.

And to Khalstead, I bought my big jogger from Craigslist for $50 and it's a $400 stroller and was hardly ever used, but for swivel joggers, well, they are harder to come by cheap unless they aren't very good joggers in the first place. I've pushed EXCELLENT joggers and swivel joggers that feel like pushing bricks. Plus, when you have a tall toddler, those cheaper ones just don't work because he's outgrowing them in all aspects and it's not very comfortable to ride in.

Oh, another thing about those expensive strollers. I think of them as "I'm using them and then passing them on". Do a search on ebay and you'll see for how much high quality strollers resell for. So, a Maclaren XLR for instance may cost $349 (never pay full retaill - there's always a sale somewhere), but if you use it for three years and resell, you can usually get $100 to $150 for it, so that's about the same as buying a $200 stroller in the long run and the FEEL of a $150 stroller and a $350 stroller is VASTLY different. That $150 stroller you will only be able to sell at a garage sale (after the same amount of time) for like $5 to $10.

For even higher quality strollers like Bugaboo and Stokke and Orbit, Well, you pay (remember always buy on sale) like $700 to $800 and you can usually get $500 to $600 back on them in a couple years. The demand is that high for them. Of course, to get that it means no leaving it out in the rain, or the sun and not letting crumbs and dirt accumulate in them... but if you take care of them, these high quality ones will look like new in two years.

OK... can you tell I'm addicted? LOL

Nope, not I. I never liked strollers. I'm more of a sling and pouch kind of girl.

But I wanted to post because I have a friend who is stroller obsessed - she has 5! That she uses often, lol!

Five is borderline obsessed! LOL I know several gals who have 20 or more, NO KIDDING! LOL

I too was really into baby carriers. My son is now 26 months and weighs 35 pounds and doesn't like to be carried around any more, but I was a member of babywearer.com. I've owned 1 hotsling, several Mei Tais of different brands, a couple different Ring Slings and am left with the Ergo Next Generation (which I will sell soon as we haven't used it in over 8 months). I think I became MORE stroller obsessed once babywearing got to be more difficult! LOL

from what I hear, a really good double stroller is like not existent. They ONLY two I've heard good things about are the Mountain Buggy Double and the ABC Double (from Australia or NZ). Otherwise, yep, too wide, too heavy, etc.

I only needed a single - I have a 10 year old and a 2 year old - no doubles here!

I can't remember the exact names of the ones I liked, but I remember Maclaren and Peg Perego as the brands. I remember seeing some really cool Bugaboo and Stokke strollers, too. They just looked to be very high quality. I have many friends and relatives who have little ones, and it's amazing how quickly the cheaper strollers wear out. The wheels seem to go bad so quickly, too. Oh, and I totally agree with you about fancy schmancy bedding and other stuff that really doesn't get worn out so much. thumbs_up.gif

OK ... I just did some browsing, and I think that the Stokke Xplory is my current favorite! icon_biggrin.gif

and Guess what stroller I have? LOL I have the stokke xplory!!!! We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that stroller. I was actually thinking of selling it as now that Henry is 26 months, we just don't use it as much as we used to, but of ALL the strollers I've tried, this is the best.

It has a fairly high learning curve, but it's easy enough. Some people don't like the two part fold, but I can get it in and out of the car (we have a station wagon) in less than 30 seconds, so it's not that fussy. You just have to get the knack of it!

Too Funny!

I've never been a fan of peregos because for me (and not all people) I can't push it one handed and that's a MUST for me. You are ALWAYS holding something (or someone) and it's useful to be able to steer easily. Macs are nice for small fold strollers, but other brands are catching up!

I'm with you. I had a really cheap umbrella that I used about 10 times with both kids. We live in the country so we don't have sidewalks and when you go to town it's a PITA to drag one out of the trunk. And my boys are big for their ages so they outgrow stuff quickly (my child was not quite 4 and the secretary at school thought he was in kindergarten).

When my oldest brothers were little my mom had a nice wagon and would pull them in it to the store. She's the one who told me to just buy the cheapest little stroller I could find. icon_lol.gif

We have a nice wagon and anyone who wants to get in shape is welcome to come pull my kid through the woods in it. He thinks I'm mean because I won't. icon_rolleyes.gif

When I found out I was pregnant last January, I immediately went into research mode as to what stroller to get. This would have been our first baby. It was thru IVF and we were told the chances of multiples was high and we were very excited to have twins!

I fell in love with the Inglesina prams. If we had twins, I'd go for the Inglesina Domino. Told my husband, we waited too long for the babies so we should buy what we wanted - he agreed! icon_smile.gif

My other choice was the Bugaboo chameleon. I liked the fact that you can custom order it in the color you wanted - I would love an orange/tan combo. They used to have cool videos on their website, not sure if they are still there. Mind you, I wasn't paying attention to the features of the strollers, was just going by how they look icon_biggrin.gif

Anyway, it turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy so I guess I have more time to research on these things...

I'm really sorry for your loss. It took us 2.5 years to get Henry, one miscarriage and several chemical pregnancies. Infertility is SOOO hard.

That's been my thinking too - this is my last baby, he's a miracle he got here (we were going to do permanent birth control the next month!!!) and by golly, I was going to enjoy! (but still being smart about WHERE I spent the money).

Good luck to you!
Melissa
