Last week, I made my first practice stacked cake.
Cake itself was yum, decorating...well, a little roughicon_biggrin.gif
Just regular ole canned frosting, and practiced cornelli lace...

But now what to do with all that cake?
Sooo....

Took it to the staff room at my children's school, and the teachers loved it icon_smile.gif

Fast froward to today - there's a baby shower on Saturday, and one of the teachers told someone, who told someone...etc., that my cake was lovely..and now...

I'm making a baby shower cake! icon_eek.gificon_eek.gif

Oh my oh my oh my...

50-60 people....ack - my heart is racing..
I know the grandma to be - she's thrilled that I'm doing this..(and basically, anything is better than the local grocery storetapedshut.gif shhh)

There's a beautiful cake photo here, 2 layers - stars, clouds, and a baby sleeping on top.. I'll do an extra sheet cake as well..
I know I can modify that a little..can't fondant a baby just yet...so I think I'll just write "Babies are a Gift From Heaven" with little angel wings on the top layer (royal icing with sugar sparkles - in the shape of wings?) with the stars, and ...

Clouds...how do I do those puffy clouds???

...must remember to breathe!! LOL!!

Any help, and encouragement - oh so appreciated!!

Yes, breathe. I just did my first shower cake last weekend--you'll get through! I also did clouds--a #12 tip does the trick. Also, I suggest making a few extra wings just in case one breaks! Good luck!

I'm sure you'll do great! We've all been there at one time and the first one can be quite intimidating. I've never done clouds before, but I would probably use just the coupler with no tip or the largest round tip and see if that works. I would also make butterceam. Instead of using the store bought stuff. I think it's much easier to work with. Just my personal opinion. I use Buttercream Dream. Heres the recipe... http://www.cakecentral.com/cake_recipe-2123-Buttercream-Dream.html It's yummy and easy to make. Good luck and don't forget to post pics when you're done. Can't wait to see your finished product!!

Ahh! Largest tip I have, or none...perfect! That I can do!
Extra wings..yes!

And thanks for the buttercream recipe!
Is one stick of butter equivalent to 1/2 or one whole cup?
Here at my local grocery store, they just carry the big bricks.

I've got 2 10" rounds in the oven right now...going to make another 10" and the top layer in a 7"... there should be enough left over batter for another 7"

..because we're now up to just over 60 people - and it's only Wednesday.
It's one of those community showers, and more always show up! icon_biggrin.gif

The extra cakes will just have the stars and clouds on them..I'll put the stacked cakes in the middle on my grandmother's silver tray..hmmm...must check on the table size for table cloths...

What fun!! icon_biggrin.gif

Don't give up on doing a fondant baby just yet. The one on that cake is fairly simple to do. The only real features are on the eyes and ears - the hat and blanket cover up everyting else.

I've done few babies like this. The eyes are just a half circle (partially press a 2 or 3 tip into the head to make the eye indention) and the ears are just a small fondant rope that is fatter in the middle and curved inward. Attach everything with some water and a paintbrush.

You can do it!!!! Your enthusiasm will get you through it all. Good luck and I cannot wait to see your final project.
