How To Make Deconstruction Much Cleaner....

Can anyone offer tips on making the deconstruction of my cakes much cleaner... My cakes when addorned with flowers and embelishments which I securely fasten to the cake with buttercream frosting because I am so afraid of them comming off in travel, or simply by design..They usually look pretty good.. up until it comes time to take them apart to cut and serve them its really hard to pry flowers off a cake that have been welded down with buttercream without ripping off the top layer of frosting or fondant leaving this gaping hole or "ugly" spot in the cake... I try to be as gentle as possible when I am serving (at family functions) but I can only imagine what is happening at the functions that I am not attending and others are responsible for cutting and serving. But I am so afraid of my decorations not staying put that I dont know how to securely fasten them without ruining the frosting.. Any tips would be greatly appreciated..
I attached flowers (silk, real and BC) to the cake using BC as a "glue" frequently and don't have the problem of "ripping up" the top layer of icing. Does this happen on a BC iced cake or on fondant covered cake? ![]()
On the flip side, once the pictures are done, no one really cares what the cake looks like when it is being cut. It no longer has to look "perfect". So unless the floral removal is pulling whole sheets of icing off, I wouldn't worry about it.
I wouldn't worry about it either.......after everyone sees how pretty it is, they are not worried about deconstruction. They are only worried about how it tastes after that! ![]()
