hi there,
i use 20kg of red path icing sugar, which is stored in my kitchen, inside a plastic bin, in the bag which it came in. my kitch is in the basement, and it is very humid here. but i do have an air conditioner and a dehumidifier...

i use shortening, butter icing sugar and vanilla in my butter, thats it...
the icing really has an "icing sugar" after taste... tasting a little misty...

and ideas why???
anyone else have a problem like this???

thanks

first is the container sealed properly? Next thought is has it tasted like this from the first? If it has then it maybe the way it was stored elsewhere. Next get someone else to taste it, why cause you maybe tasting something that isn't really there. Next is your butter fresh, cause if its soaked up any taste from the fridge it will transfer to your icing.

Thats all i can think of right now.

Could the container that it was stored in absorbed some odor of some kind? After moving my mom we noticed that her plastic containers she stored her sugar and flour in had an off odor--they were about 25 years old. She washed them often. I would take the container out of the area and give it a whif. Could the sugar be old? Maybe at the back of the shelf at the store and finally pulled to the front? Some stores around here are terrible at rotating stock.
