How To Make A Black Bow Look Like Leather?

any ideas??? Im making a cake for a batchelorette party, and she wants a pink cake with a big black bow on top, this will be a stacked cake. She wants the black bow to almost look like leather. so how would i make the fondant shiny like that? thanks!

I'm not sure about the shine, but for texture you could get a piece of cheap vinyl type faux leather at the craft store and roll out your fondant on that so it is textured. Do they make black pearl dust?

There are several ways to do this. Some brush a very light coat of Crisco, some use a corn syrup lightly brushed on or a very light mist of steam , but be careful on that one and don't get too wet. I suppose you could also use an acryilic spray but make sure you do not put the bow directly on the cake use something to protect it.

I use confectioner's glaze to paint over anything I want to look shiny, if you can't get that then you could use a like brushing of piping gel. How about running a studded tracing wheel down both edges of the ribbon to create a 'stitched' effect which might help it to look like leather?
