It's interesting to see the different prices!
Here is a big thread regarding the People magazine if you're interested.

I save it to my fav but I havent left CC to see anything else.... I'm so hooked this is always the best book to read
I was looking at that article in the checkout line at the grocery store yesterday
I didn't see the prices though, I will have to check out that link!
I am glad that some one else called this a never ending book to read.
Cool link! Thanks!
Now you can see what state never to move to, haha...seemed like the southern states and a few midwestern states got hardly anything for their time and talent.... then the western states and northeast seemed to get the most. (I was happy to see PA was charging one of the highest haha, yeah!) You can also see how inflated Duff's cakes are because of being on tv.
I saw some that looked so cool but they only got a few hundred bucks!
BTW that one at Virginia with the weird shapes was VERY cool....
Who ever priced these cakes must have thrown a bunch numbers into a hat and just pulled something out cause some of those cakes were nothing special and getting a lot of money. Others were really intricate and getting nothing!! I only saw a few that were worth what they were asking.
by nothing special I meant the work involved.
I know! I think it had to do with the individual pricing of the bakery and then the local demand. Some of the southern states, you can't get any decent prices for cake. I felt sorry for a few of them that put alot of work in for a few hundred bucks, I know there are decorators on CC who have the same problems.
When I lived in South Carolina, I was charging dirt cheap to family and friends (newer decorator) and I had a lady call for a boatload of cupcakes and I think I charged her $1 each or less (probably less) and she got upset with me and didn't want any. I'm thankful that here in PA I feel like I get better money for my work.
If you watch how the pricing went, you can see how it almost went by region...Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia got very little money. Maryland, NJ, PA, CT, etc got good money. The western states were a little more mixed up but I think depended on the population of the area the cake was made in...the Idaho one was cheap but a few of the other western ones were higher, like Utah, probably because of the city.
Thanks for the link. Gorgeous cakes! It really goes to show you how prices vary.
