I have to bake a baby shower cake and I am going to make my usual Red Velvet cake and lightly tint the Buttercream icing light pink. The baby is a girl. To me there is not much of a flavor to a Red Velvet Cake. I really cannot taste the cocoa in it. Has anyone ever tried to flavor a Red Velvet Cake?

Do you use a mix or scratch recipe? If you use a mix, use buttermilk instead of water, a extra egg, and chocolate pudding. It's very yummy!

My recipe (scratch recipe) for Red Velvet cake is very delicious. However, I prefer to use traditional Cream Cheese Icing (that can be tinted pink). It goes with Red Velvet ckae so much better than BC.
If you would like it let me know. I have pics of it in my photos but that doesn't help you to taste it LOL

Thanks for help. I make my Red Velvet from scratch. I tried a recipe once using the box mix and adding pudding but I did not care for it. I do use buttermilk in my cake which makes it moist. I think I have decided to maybe use strawberry buttercream. I also might add a little more chocolate. I just like to experiment with my baking.
