Does anyone bake the wasc (white, almond, sourcream cake) using the doctored cake mix recipe. I'm baking one now and it looks weird to me, its not browning and it has a really crunchy top layer on it, is that normal? I know I will have to cut off the crunchy part, and i'm hoping this is normal.
The recipe is
1 box mix. 1 cup sour cream, 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1/3 c. oil, and 4 egg whites, ( I used 3 whole eggs) maybe that is the problem and almond flav.
Let me know what you think, need advice quick

Maybe too much oil? I am baking WASC right now and my recipe only calls for 1/8 cup for 1 mix recipe.

Hi Joanne, thanks for getting back to me so soon. I just took the cakes out of the oven and the crunchy layer is flaking off, the underneath cake looks fine, hopefully it doesn't fall apart when I dump them out of the pan, next time I will try less oil, thanks

I find that the WASC never turns golden like other cakes...
never had a problem with it crusting though.
