Has anyone ever substituted margerine in their buttercream? I am doing a couple of cakes and no one has butter on sale at a decent price (sorry but 20 cents off is not a good deal), and was wondering if anyone has used margerine in it's place. If so, what brand worked well for you?

I love margarine in my buttercream! I use Blue Bonnet, its the best that I have found. The only thing I have to complain about when using margarine is that it makes the BC a little more on the yellow side than with butter.but I think its sooo yummy!!!

I NEVER use margarine. It is not allowed in my house. I use only real butter for everything.

Thanks for your responses. I too would prefer to use butter, but $$$ restraints this week have me going the less expensive route. I could go with an all shortening recipe, but would rather do a half/half one. Thanks!

I got tired of spending so much on name brand butter so I tried the store brand, and to my suprise I think it is better. It seems to crust more. Maybe its just me. HTH
