This is for my crown cake on Sat. She wanted to the topper to be a stand alone crown.....it will be decorated w/gold luster dust and have real jewels and some other fondant decos on it. I'm worried it won't hold up w/o any center support!! Esp. since I'll have to figure out a way to paint the inside w/gold dust also!!

This is made w/gumpaste. Right now I have it wrapped around a cake dummy, but that is going to be removed when i need to paint the inside and then to put it on top of the cake. Will gumpaste be able to hold all the decorations and painted w/dust w/o anything to support it?

Oh....It is 6" round and 6" high.

gumpaste is very sturdy. Based on the thickness I can see in your picture - it should not have any problem holding decorations. I can't wait to see the finished product either.

If it's dry it should be hard as a rock and hold up. I wouldn't mess with it unitl it is completely dry so you don't get any cracks.

I guess it will hold decorations if they are not too heavy and if the width of the gumpaste is not too thin.It would be easier if you sprayed the inside with a gold color, but handling with care you can hand paint it.
Best of luck.

I agree, it should be hard as a rock and hold up well. My concern would it be too heavy for the cake!

thanks everyone, I talked to the bride and if I was delivering the cake, travelin 3 hrs away with it and setting it up....I think I would be ok w/it. BUT....since it is 3hrs away...she didn't want to pay the delivery fee...so she is picking it up the night before and taking it herself!!

So we are just going to do the same as the other two tiers and put some flowers on top...I think that will look ok!! Plust it will be easier for her to transport b/c the top two tiers are now going to be dummy cakes!!! And if anything happened to the crown topper...she'd be out of luck and have nothing for the top of the cake!!!
