I have been asked to make a cake for the weekend. This family is quite large and every 3 months get together to celebrate the children's birthdays. This time it is this parents job to get the cake.

The dilema I have is she has said do anything - great. I dont know what to do. She wants all 5 children's names on there and they range in age from 2 - 15 both boys and girls.

What design do you think - she wants a 12x12 inch square cake covered in fondant. I was thinking of putting a pic on it of some sort with balloons on which I could put each of the childrens names and years they are turning.

The mum and I were thinking maybe we could split the cake in half on the diagonal and do one half for the girls and one half for the boys. I dont know - what I do know though is that CC can help.

Please help. I cant think of anything else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TIA

How about changing it to a round cake enough to feed how many it has to and then do this:

http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&meta=search&search=barney&cat=0&pos=32&search=barney

it was posted the other day by BAYAMOY and I think it's a great idea for multiple birthdays. All you need to do is cut the cake equally into 5 wedges, decorate to suit each child and then push them back together to form a whole, then each child gets their own cake! What do you think?

Edited to say: if you're not going to be able to make a single round cake to serve the number you need to, how about a 2 tier round, divided as above, with the smaller top divided in 2 and done for that number of boys/girls, and then the bottom tier divided into 3 and done for the rest? Worth considering if size will be an issue!

any chance you could go up a size to 14x14 and then cut it down to a pentagon shape?

easy to divide into 5 equal parts then. the removed parts could be used for cake balls.

when cutting down, line up one point of pentagon w/ one corner of square for less removal

OR

do a big hex cake....

divide into 6 sections...

5 have names of b-day people

6th has the Hippo Birdy Two Ewes!

I love you Doug ----------- such a font of genius! Yes, forget what I said and do the 15in hexagon and divide like Doug said, that should feed the same as a 12in square (if not a few more)!

I love your gift box cakes with the spray of stars at the top.

Why not incorporate the shape of a five point star with the childrens names at the end ( maybe inside a smaller star) with the spray of stars coming from the middle

And maybe on the top of cake( or inside the big star ) the word - SUPERSTARS

I've seen a cake done on here using the hexagon pan that has a gift box on each side of the hexagon (I think someone said it is a Wilton cake, so it might be on the website listed as a project for the hexagon pan). You could do that and each child could have their own gift box (maybe make a small gift tag from fondant for each side), and then the sixth side you could always just do a gift tag that just says Happy Birthday.

I have been dying to make a scrabble cake and will probably make one for all of the cousins for Christmas. I will spell out each of the kids names on the "scrabble board". You could always do that - simple, fun and totally unexpected when people see the cake!

Along the lines of the scrabble board, have Happy Birthday and some other fun things spelled out on the board, and then have 5 fondant/MMF letter 'racks' - the letters on the racks(five of them) set around the scrabble board (cake) could spell each person's name.

Or if there is another board game that the family is into, maybe work that into it with 5 players instead.

Thank you so much for your ideas. I have spoken to the lady and we have come up with doing a picture of snoopy - holding a scroll and writing happy birthday. I was then going to do a pic of snoopy's bird friend (sorry dont know his name) holding 5 balloons one for each child - each in their favourite colour. Their names will be in the balloons as well as the ages they are turning this year.

So, wdyt?

Mrssambo - Snoopy's bird friend is Woodstock. I love the idea - I think that will be cute - can't wait to see the pictures.

Doug - I bought every single one of those cards I could find back in 75. Was able to give them to different people for years. I think it is quite possibly one of my favorite cards ever.

LOL mine too!

My twin sis had a stuffed snoopy as a kid and I had woodstock, but when I first got it as a toddler I thought Woodstock was a really dumb name so I renamed it Sunshine (which was my nickname as a kid LOL) so when it said up there 'I can't remember what his bird friend's name is' I wanted to say Sunshine icon_lol.gif (damn lost Sunshine in the mean time but I still have Snoopy icon_redface.gif )
