I will be using a diamond impression mat for the first time this week and I was just hoping I could get some good tips from some of you out there that have used one before. I will be using it for a square chocolate buttercream grooms cake. Any tips would greatly be appreciated! Thanks!

I have not used it on square cakes, but do rounds.........first of all, make some type of handle to attach on the back of it, so you can lift it off your cake without issues. Also, dust it VERY lightly with powdered sugar first, so that when you press into the BC, it doesn't stick. Lastly, I keep a paper towel handy and wipe it off between doing each impression, so the grease doesn't make it stick when you are doing the next one...........that's all I can think of.........I am sure others may have even better suggestions! thumbs_up.gif

pick your two front sides, since you are doing a square, and line the diamonds up so they connect going around the corner, they may not line up on the last corners though. I dont dust mine, just what for a good crust, but i do go over the lines afterwards with a straight edge softned with a paper towel to get really good impressions.

How do you make a handle? I guess I am interested in knowing what you use also for your handle.

I just got my diamond impression mat last week and I haven't had a chance to use it yet.

Thanks,

take a piece of masking tape, partially stick it to its self in the middle and
stick the two ends onto the back of the mat. do it twice so you have 2 handles

And just keep in mind, if you make a mistake, or do not like the impression, you can reapply the BC to the cake and do it over icon_smile.gif
