I just got back to the house I had orientation @ my DH's school after class I did not finish my cake so I just finished it here at home. The MMf was a little tough but I stuck it in the microwave and I was able to roll it. I really liked it and everyone tasted some in class. They other two girls used Wilton Fondant, but there is always a BUT the Mf was not white. The girls that used Wilton theirs was white white mine was ivory or eggshell or off white who knows not white at first it looked ok until I put it next to everyone else and then my bead border look real white (BC icing) so I colored it light pink so it would kinda go witht he rest of the cake I also added real small flowers so check it out tell me what you think. Also it was kinda bumpy on top Also the MMF is soft but like my bow colapse it does not seems to be drying man, my hand hurts!!!! I can't wait to try this again. Thanks for everyone that helped me all this time.

I have never had my mmf be ivory before. Did you flavor it with regular vanilla? My only other guess would be that your marshmallows cooked too long and started to carmalize? hmmm interesting. I love mmf, too. mmm mmm. I think you did a really great job on this.

The first time I made it I think I didn't melt them enough I did not melt them into a liquid form they only lost their shape and puffed up, so they second time I stirred them every 30 seconds until they were into a liquid form, both batches of MMF were the same color. I used the Great Value brand MMs if that helps figure it out and I used Wilton's clear vanilla extract. I guess I can use the rest of the fondant but color it, until I try again I will try not to melt them too much, hey maybe my microwave is too high for them and cooks them before it melts them all the way? Well I did find it easy to work with so I did something wrong MMF IS supposed to be real white then? I still have some pink left and some of the ivory one
icon_sad.gif how long it iwll be good for or should I use it right away? I can always color it

MMF should be the same color as your marshmallows if you use clear vanilla. You are not adding anything that should darken the color-just your water, flavoring, and powdered sugar.

Your cake is very pretty though and MMF somewhat carmelized would probably taste better to me. icon_biggrin.gif

MMF is very hard to dry without gumtex added. So for your bow, you could have kneaded in some gumtex (doesn't take much).

I've read you should only use name brand marshmallows. I've never tried Great Value ones, so couldn't say if that was your problem or not. More than likely you over cooked the marshmallows. It doesn't have to be a complete liquid, just needs all of the marshmallows to be melted (no chunks lol).

Pretty cake though icon_smile.gif

Darn that's what I forgot I was told gum tex makes MMF hard so my bow will never get hard!!!! I guess it doesn't matter it's just a cake for class

I use the "great value" brand marshmellows and the MMF I make is just as white as the stuff I have made with the name brand. I think that your batch was just over cooked a tad. (which is good to know ~ in case I ever want to have ivory colored MMF!!)
