Multicolour Technique For Perfectly Smooth Icing

I'm sorry I don't know but here's a "bump" for you.
If you use fondant you can knead in one color, then another, and then another, then roll out. You will get marble look or different color swirls. If you are using BC you could make 3 colors and put small amounts on the top of the cake , smooth just to give an effect, then use your paper towel method to get the final smooth. Be careful not to smooth too much with your spat or you will get some solid ugh color. Your other way is to air-brush your colors. Good Luck.
I am sure this isnt the best way to do it but you could do it like a FBCT on the top or your cake. Just draw out the size of your cake and fill it in with the color you want. Ice your cake with the 'side' color and then transfer your FBCT onto the top. I have a cake in my gallery (hibiscus cake) where I did something similar, but of course I drew in hibiscus flowers, but you could just do it plain.
I put spoonfuls of my icing around cake (diffrent colors), then spread over cake, being careful not to overblend. Then I take a super hot spatula and slowly smooth over cake. Pull it a tad bit slower then usual and it will melt the colors together as it smoothes. I dip my spatula in boiling water to do this. Hope this helps or was it clear as mud?
