I took the advice of many of you on CC, and have been making it my goal to take three local business sample packages each week (last week was my first week). In each of my sample packages, I included a 1/4 sheet cake; 1 dozen mints; 1 dozen iced cookies, and 1 dozen mini cupcakes with candy melt bottoms. From one of the businesses that I dropped a kit off at on Friday, I have already gotten an email regarding a wedding cake tasting/consultation. Yeah!!! Just wanted to thank you all for the advice that you give, and don't even realize it!!!
PS: Had a tasting tonight...went great. Another scheduled for Saturday evening, and possibly...this 3rd one from my donated cake. That's just for tastings...
Good for you! I truly believe in this type of advertising. I predict a three cake weekend very soon! LOL
OOOOOOOH! Cupcakes with candy melt bottoms! WOW! I want a BIG order of those! I would have never thought of that.
Ok, what is a cupcake with a cany melt bottom?? I have not heard of this and am having a hard time picturing it! Are the candy melts inside/outside the paper liner and when are they added??? Hate to be so out of the loop!
I am happy for you that your tastings went well. Sometimes a little taste goes a long way. Good Luck and hope you get alot of orders for your efforts.
Re: cupcakes with candy melt bottoms
I guess that you could call these my "signature" item. I grease my cupcake tin cups with crisco, flour, and fill with batter. When the cupcakes are cooled, I invert them on a cooling rack over a foil liner. I melt my candy melts, and cover the entire bottom and sides of the cupcake. When these harden, you've got a great candy shell. I don't know...something about biting into the sweetness of the icing, into the moist cake, and the crunch of the creamy candy bottom just sends me into hysterics. They're awesome, if I do say so myself, and one of my best sellers.
Wow, that was really nice of you to share your signature recipe! That sounds really awesome, I think I will have to try it soon! THANKS!!
This sounds like a great idea to do! I just have a question is it like solicitaion? I know some places have a policy and I would'nt like to get into some mess of a problem? Now also do you have to have any type of permits to sell or house regulations? Thank you!!
cakesbyamym - Thanks for sharing your cupcake secret. That sounds awesome! I hope you don't mind but I just have to try that. By the way congrats on the orders. With all you do how could they resist! LouAnn
cakesbyamym - do you put the cupcakes with the candy melts in a paper liner after they harden, or do you just leave them like they are and decorate and put them in the box?
Once the cupcakes are totally dried, I put them into a liner. Also, I normally pop them into the fridge for about 15 minutes to firm up the candy melts as they're drying. Seems to give a better result, in my opinion. Also, don't leave in the fridge too long...they'll start sweating. Not a pretty sight. I put a beautiful swirl of butter cream with sprinkles on top; characters; flowers, you name it. I've just about talking myself into making a quick batch...that won't help me reach my weight loss goal any quicker though...sigh...
cakesbyamym you totally read my mind! I am wanting to make a batch of those as well! Good thing for me, I have to leave in a few minutes for awhile! Looks like you are doing great on your diet though! 125 is my goal weight too, although I wouldn't complain about 120 or 115! What diet plan are you on?
cakesbyamym...what flavors do you use?
Congrats on the consult and the cupcakes sound great
babyscake...I don't think of it as soliciting at all. I just call up, tell them what I do, and ask if they'd like one of my complimentary samplers. Haven't had anyone to turn me down yet...then again...it's only week 2 really working this angle.
Sherry, I use the vanilla candy melts. I don't buy the colored candies, just the white. I like to color-coordinate with the cake color scheme, so I stick with my candy colors for changing from white to whatever. Leaves you a lot more options...and space...not having one of every color of the rainbow on hand. Oh, these are also what I make my mints out of. Just add in a bit of peppermint, and wah-lah, CREAMY, yummy mints! Boy, I'm getting hungry...
Amy-I'd love to see a picture of your mini creations. I noticed you don't have them in your photos and just in case you weren't aware-your www isn't working-says site has moved.
I would love to see a picture of them, too.
Thank you so much. But do I need a buisness licence or some type of permit! I really want to do this. Thank you!
When you decorate a "promo" cake, or sampler type thing, what kind of color scheme, decoration do you use? I know some people have a terrible imagination, so I would want it to be something that would have a strong impact and be memorable, yet generic enough that it could appeal to everyone. Do you give your package a theme, like for a birthday or something, or just flowers, ect? I've been thinking about doing this, but am wondering what kind of decoration to use? Thanks!
I would also love to see a picture of your cupcakes...sounds fantastic.
this is a great idea! Are theses like office buildings and businesses or restaurants and such?
I just uploaded pics of my cupcakes. I haven't taken a lot of pics of the cupcakes...not really sure why...guess I'm just focused on the cakes, but I'll be sure to take pics from now on. I have another order for cc going out Friday for a baby shower, so I'll post pics again then...I'll do pics of the actual bottoms of the cupcakes with the candy melt coating, too.
Oh, as far as what places I'm dropping samples off at...mostly banks and a few dental offices. Most have friends/family who have already ordered from me. When they call requesting information, I "offer" to drop by a sample kit for their office. Everyone loves a freebie...especially when they taste good. Besides, when you try it for yourself, you KNOW whether you like it or not.
Great idea..dropping off some freebies! I can't wait till I have more experience and am ready to get some "real" business! Your cupcakes are beautiful, btw.
Amy-Thanks for the info on the candy melt cupcakes. What a great idea! I would never have thought of it. You cupcakes look lovely. Can I ask what you charge for them? I am assuming the candy coating ones are higher-it takes a lot of that stuff when used to coat something, I have found! Thanks!
Well, my current price for 1 dozen mini cupcakes with candy melt bottoms is $4. Texas sized (HUGE!) with candy melt bottoms are $7, and character/flowers/etc., are $8.
As of 9/01/06, my prices will increase, and they will be prices as following: 1 dz. mini cc = $5; Texas sized cc = $8, and character = $9.00.
