How Would You Attach Gp Barbed Wire To A Bc Cake??

OK...I have this, um, interesting, creative cake coming up.

I have to make GP barbed wire (know how to do that), but it needs to be in "swags" that will have a burgundy lily at each "point" on top of the cake, with a little GP horseshoe hanging (or stuck on) below each lily in the gap between each swag.

I have to transport it about an hour, and I do NOT have a lot of time to be fooling with setup once I get there, as I have a second cake to deliver that day.

So the question is:

How would you attach the barbed wire swags to the BC cake? Before transport? Will they stay? or should I try somehow to use toothpicks at the points as extra insurance? If I use toothpicks, how would I use them? Or should I just stick the swags right to the BC when I arrive? (It's a crusting type)

augh! so many things to wonder!

Also I'd love anyone's best suggestion on small GP or royal horseshoes.

Oh, and how to make hidden pillars look like "wine barrels"??? icon_razz.gif

Did I mention this cake is a challenge?? I can't think this hard, this late at night.

Thanks for ANY ideas!

Hi. I will try to answer some of your questions. Since I'm no expert, maybe someone out there can answer some of them.

Depending on how heavy your GP barbed wire swags are, I would suggest attaching them there. With the heat and humidity this summer and all the bumps and turns on the road, the weight of your GP attachment might take its toll. You may have to adjust your schedule so you have time to assemble and deliver your other cake.

Hidden pillars look like wine barrels? I have an idea but I'm not really sure. I'm sure someone out there can help or has a better idea icon_biggrin.gif Strips of GP using something concave to let it dry (flower former?) or if you have something else that's less concave. Paint strips to look like wood. Assemble pillars and then attach dried GP and cut black strips of fondant to hold the barrel together. Do I make sense? I can picture it in my head icon_lol.gif

Thanks! I was thinking the GP swags might not make it, too, and there is construction everywhere this year... icon_mad.gif

I can see the barrel idea too--never thought of that. I think I'll try that--I was thinking of wrapping the pillars with GP, but I couldn't get the contour idea to work out.

Thanks again!
