I made a Red Velvet today and it was for 2 nine " pans...I wish I would have doubled it cuz it came out very small..

What does it say it makes? if it's a layer 8 or 9 I would triple it..always better to trim tasting pieces off than to not have enough

Good luck

12 inch square pan takes 10 cups of batter, per the Wilton book. I would measure it into the pan to make sure 2 mixes is enough.

I might suggest making a smaller cake, unless you don't mind leftovers. I think a 12x12 square cake (two-layer) will give about 30+ party-sized servings. How about a two-layer 10-inch square cake? I think that will give you the number of servings you're looking for, and I would double the recipe for that.

I agree with the above post that 12in square for 20 people is way too big. I'd go for a 10in too, that would serve 24 2x2in slices ( and if your cake is 4in high, it's enough, even for a cake pig like me!). Good luck!

i double my regular plain cake recipe for my 12*12 pans. i also collar the pan with parchment. otherwise it spills over and makes a horrible mess. i have never measured it out though. i think it would be safe to double it.

12 x 12 pan takes 10 cups of batter for a 2" pan. which serves about 40-45

a 8 x 8 pan feeds 20 ...exactly and takes 4 cups batter.

I would go for a happy medium

10x10, feeds about 30...or 20 big eaters..and takes 6 cups batter for a 2" high pan
