I had the same question about a 25th Anniversary cake I had to do. Most of the suggestions I received from fellow CC'ers was that it would be easier to use white b/c icing and add silver fondant accents, because you end up with gray icing instead of silver. I'm not sure if you'd want fondant on your muffins though, unless they were small hearts.

Another option would be to pipe Royal Icing Hearts on the muffins, and then dust it / paint it with Nu Silver. Of course, they'd need to remove the heart prior to indulging. icon_smile.gif

I ended up painting white fondant hearts with "Nu Silver". You can take a look at my pic's to see the end result. I'm new at this too, but the Nu Silver worked well for me. It's helpful to get the right consistancy or it streaks. Just a few drops alcohol or lemon extract to about a 1/4 tsp Nu Silver was the suggestion "Indigojods" gave me.

I wish you luck with your project. Maybe someone one else can offer additional help.

wilton makes a new glitter gel which may be what you are looking for. it comes in a tube - maybe a couple of ounces for about 4 dollars. it looks like glitter glue anc comes in several colors including silver. my local michaels craft store carries it. you could use something like that to pipe with a round tip, twice, as if doing a snail trail border but coming together, to form a heart.

This is the recipe I have been using to pipe silver. You can add 2-3 times the amount of gel to extend it. Just add silver luster dust; The color is really good but the gel doesn't harden up. I am still working on it because I have a wedding cake with silver swirls but I can not paint neatly.

That recipe looks like a good idea...normally I use royal icing and then mix the Luster Dust with a tiny bit of vodka, and I mean a tiny bit, and I paint it on the royal icing. It comes our really shimmery.
