I was just wondering where everyone is getting these impression mats to make lines on the sides of their cakes in diamond shapes? I have never seen them at joanns or michaels .. is it something you have to order online, and if
so what is the website? thanks for any help ..

I've only ever seen them online, but they could be sold in cake supply stores- I'm not sure. Here's one website www.BakeDeco.com . Hope this helps!

Another idea is to check out dollar/craft stores. I have used place mats with designs on them in lieu of actual impression mats. Loads cheaper!

Oh, now I see. I have been racking my brain to understand how to get that effect on a cake. Duh - impression mats. I embarrassed to say I still don't get how to use them icon_redface.gif Any quick advice would shed some light. Thanks.[/i]

I see how impression mats can only be used with fondant, but can you successfully use quilting markers on buttercreme? Thanks

I would say yes, I have also used patterend paper towel on buttercream to get patterns on it.

Impression mats can be used on BC as well as long as you let the BC crust first.

Really Tiggy2? Maybe it would help if I saw an impression mat in person, but I can't understand how it would work with BC. Do you cut it to size or does it ben easily? I would love to know how to do that to a BC cake. Thanks.
