what about about a cream cheese frosting or orange buttercream with pumpkin. Here is one I found but never tried...I have used a chocolate sour cream that is wonderful but not on a pumpkin cake:

INGREDIENTS:
4 tablespoons butter, softened
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 3/4 cups confectioners' sugar

DIRECTIONS:
In a medium bowl, mix together the butter, sour cream, vanilla, lemon juice and salt. Stir in confectioners' sugar, and beat with an electric mixer until smooth.
The Chocolate Cake Mix doctor has a chocolate sour cream icing recipe that I just made.
It is delicious, but a bit too chocolatey for most people I think. I was going to tinker with it.
I don't have the book, but perhaps someone else could help. It might be on the cakemixdoctor site too.
