Help! How Do You Write On A Cake Side?

I am going to be doing a (square) bridal shower cake this week, and the picture shows the writing on the SIDE of the cake! icon_surprised.gif My question to you all is how the heck do you do that, and keep the letters from falling off? Am crossing my fingers I can do this one icon_redface.gif

i wouldnt worry about it i do my wh\ighting before the event judt make sure your icing is flat on the side touching the cake as long as your wrighting icing is stickey youll be fine

I put a bench scraper under the cake just to tilt it up a little bit. The "handle" of the bench scraper would be at the edge of the cake. That gives me a better angle of attack for writing.

I was worried about the very same thing on a graduation cake I just did and I just went at it like normal and it worked just fine.

In fact, I think it was even easier than writing on top because the angle felt much more like writing with a pen.
