I am working on a FBCT and I am finished outlining and filling in my colors. In the instructions on CC, it says to use the same color icing you will ice your cake with, edge the transfer and cover the back evenly.

Why is it necessary to edge and cover the back. I would like to leave it the way is and pop it into the freezer, but will it ruin it? Thanks so much for a quick reply icon_lol.gif

I have not put that last part on mine and they turned out fine.

if your transfer is thick enough it won't be a problem, but if it's really thin the extra frosting just makes it stronger so you don't have to worry about it breaking.

I have a question about this too.
Do you freeze it alittle before you add that last icing? I tried it today and it made my FBCT side in places.

Alicia, I was going to do the same as you, put it in the freezer then pull it out and put the icing on the back. I wound up just leaving it in the freezer (from what momof4 said) without putting any extra icing on the back. I'm going to decorate the cake today so I'll let you know how it turns out.

Thanks ya'll for your input. I love how people respond so quickly to my questions since I'm fairly new at this.

Sorry that has taken so long to get back. I finished the cake and my FBCT did start to crack just slightly when I was peeling off the waxed paper but when it defrosted completely, the crack was no longer visible. Next time, I will make sure I make it a little bit thicker so that won't happen again.

Once your whole transfer is complete.. Yes stick it back into the freezer and let it get hard again.. Let's say your covering your cake with Yellow buttercream icing.. put a thin layer of that yellow icing ontop of the complete transfer, this is so that the colors in the transfer dont bleed onto your cake.. Good Luck!

briansbaker Just a thank you from a newbie decorator now it all seems clear to me lol and I would have never thought about freezing the transfer first and probably would have ended up with a smudged design by putting the thin layer before freezing the design lol
