Food Network Challenge Cartoon Cakes Question
Decorating By bitofsnshn Updated 30 Jun 2007 , 10:58pm by Eggshells
I was curious if anyone knew the answer to my question.
When watching tonight i saw one of the decorators using what looks like an aerosol can with color below it for painting the scooby cake. Does anyone know what or how he does this. I have seen pre colored aerosol colors, but it looked like a his own homemade color attached to the aerosol can.
Can anyone help me with the question?
Do a search for preval sprayer and you'll get plenty of info.
I saw that last night and it was not a can, but a paint sprayer, like for your house. I thought the Curious George guy was doing it though!
Anyway i dont know about the homemade color though.
hmmm.. I must have missed the preval. I DVR'ed it! I will watch again!

Can the Prival be used agian?

The guy with the Curious George cake ran out of fondant and used cocoa powder (I think that's what they said) to make his buttercream look like wood since it was a table. Quick thinking and great results. He used a Wagner power sprayer that looks just like my hubby's out in the shop!
It most likely was the same type of sprayer. I just got my airbrush a week ago. My husband painted cars for years so he went online and got a airbrush pen like you would use for t-shirts and stuff then got a compressor from lowes........ came out cheaper that way and works great.

I had never seen that before and could see how handy that could be when you dont want to drag an airbrush around. What an interesting tool. Just what i need another cool cake decorating gadget. ![]()

You can get aerosol cans of gold and silver edible spray color there. HTH
gold and other luster and can be mixed with vodka or everclear and then sprayed.
chocolate melted and thinned (paramount crystals) and then sprayed
The melted chocolate can be mixed with equal amounts of melted cocoa butter, paramount crystals or even cooking oil. But to get the fuzzy effect the cake must be frozen and the spray kept warm and fluid. I tried it with the Wagner and it just ran rather than beaded up as I had hoped. I wrote to a chocolatier and asked and that was my mistake, it takes that difference in temperatures for it to work well. Now I have found a spray in a can that is quite expensive, but works with the same principal. Frozen cake, warm chocolate mixture.
