Hi everyone,

I usually just decorate cakes but I wanted to try some cookies (I have had a look at the article) but I wanted to ask can you put nuts, chocolate or other stuff in them - will this make them too lumpy or is it ok if you just chop them finely and/or does the icing hide the lumpiness (is that a word)?

Also the cookies on sticks are they just lollipop sticks or are they special sticks because they go in the oven?

Thanks icon_biggrin.gif

Hi! Welcome to the world of cookie decorating!! Yes, adding things like chocolate, nuts, etc. will add lumps unless they are finely ground and can "melt" or become powder in the cookies. Royal icing or color flow will accentuate any "bumps" you might have in your cookies. As for the sticks, there are special sticks for cookies that are larger/longer than the average lollipop stick, but are basically made of the same stuff.

I've never added anything to decorated cookies but here's a welcome to CC! You're going to love it here!

I add stuff to my no fails. I add a little brown sugar and lessen the white sugar. I also knead some cinnamon into the dough before I roll it out. I have read that other people also add all kinds of stuff to the no fail recipe.

You can also use bamboo skewers for the sticks if you want to try your hand at a cookie bouquet. They are longer and easier to arrange.

I'm sure those would be fine. Nothing like trial and error to find out for sure though! Let us know!

If your cookies are to be heavily decorated, then I would chop finely whatever it is your are mixing into it. But if your are not decorating them much, I guess it's ok if they buldge. I always use dowels as my sticks since I make very big and very thick cookies. I find lillipop stick not strong enough. icon_smile.gif
