it is my first time to use fondant. i was told by an instructor to use candy molds, well, i am having a heck of time with it. i have placed the powder sugar inside the tiny butterfly molds as told, in order to keep the fondant from sticking, however, the molds are so small that when i pull the butterfly's out of the candy molds, they are nearly destroyed because they are still sticking.... it is taking me forever just to get a few good ones and i need to make 20 or so...also the powder sugar is sticking to the fondant, and she said it will brush right off..but it isn't...

i have left the fondant in the mold a few minutes to see if the hardened batch will be easier to lift out, and also immediately and it doesn't matter, either way they are ugly as sin when they come out of the mold.

what i am doing wrong....any tips??? are there fondant butterfly molds out there where i should look?

thanks! icon_sad.gif

have you tried corn starch, paint it in with a paint brush, it might work. I just tried using molds and I have not had a ton of luck either. so if you find any thing out please let me know. thank you and good luck.

Try greasing the mold with shortening to see if it works. Hope they turn out!

I find that if I use a little crisco, maybe not in the mold itself but on the actual piece of fondant that you will be putting in the mold it may help. Just remember if you use too much it will have a slightly shinny appearance. You could also try putting the mold in the fridge, and let the fondant set a little before you try taking it out of the mold.

Could it be that your fondant might still be a little sticky? Whenever I make MMF, I think I have all the sugar I need, then, sure enough, it starts to stick when I roll it out and I have to add at least another cup of PS to the mix. Maybe that's the problem?

I think a little Crisco or Pam spray might help, though. Good luck!

put it in the freezer for a few minutes...it will come out of the mold much nicer.
I do that for any fondant or gumpaste items I do in a mold..have no luck otherwise..this way is really good.

I use fondant in molds quite a bit. After you fill the molds with the fondant, put the entire thing in the freezer for about 10 minutes and they should just pop out. HTH
