Caramel Filling Using Unwrapped Caramels??

I need to make a chocolate cake with caramel filling and I don't have many ingredients for the caramel except for the individually wrapped caramels. Has anyone made a caramel filling using these before?

I've used them to make caramel brownies. I unwrap them and put them in a pot with some evaporated milk and stir till they are melted. But here's a bump for you and hopefully someone who has made a caramel filling can help you

I found a caramel filling recipe here on cake central.....I just did a search.
