3 Tier Cake

can someone tell me how to ice a 3 tier cake? Do you ice them 1 at a time and if so how to you pile them on top of one another

I've never personally made one but from one I gather you ice them individually on separate cake boards then dowel the cakes and stack them but here's a bump so someone with some experience can help you better
