I did. I was to scare not to since I use my dummy cakes for displaying. I wanted them to look like a real cake.

I would think it MIGHT depend on your construction. is it stacked or on pillars? Ive done about 5 stacked dummmies and have never used cardboard....dont know about the pillars though

It's just stacked...no pillars..however, I have small, medium and large and I may put the small one in the middle??? icon_smile.gif Not sure yet....I think it would be okay...but I think that because there are no decorations on it yet...?? Thanks! S

No need for cardboards between dummies. If it's a stacked construction, you can even hot glue it together if you want. If it' has a pillar construction, you can use plates or you can use push in pillars by coring out holes in the right places. No need for anything in those holes, either. Again, you can use royal icing or hot glue to hold things together. If the bottom a a dummy may be exposed, e.g. a larger tier atop a smaller one, you can just put a thin coat of royal or fondant on the bottom.

I think the whole reason for a cake board is for support of the flimsy cake. (to keep it from breaking/cracking/caving) Since the dummies are styrofoam and pretty stong, I'd say there's no need for the cake board.

I definitely suggest putting a skewer or something through them to keep them together.....if you aren't using the hot glue that is.

For me, when I use dummies for the main wedding display, I decorate each tier separately, like a regular cake. In this case, I like to have the dummy on a cardboard circle to make it easier to ice and place on the other lower tiers. If I do not use a carboard circle, I tend to mess up the icing near the bottom and have to do more touch-ups when I stack the tiers together.
