Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had some info on Satin Ice. I am going to be doing my first wedding cake in a few weeks, and I am thinking that I would like to use SI. So far I have just made MMF and have really liked it, but the wedding cake is 4 tiered (18,14,10, & 6") and will feed about 300 people, so I am pretty sure that my arms will fall off if I need to make that much mmf!
My question is: where do you all get your Satin Ice? There is a cake supply store near me that sells it, but it is SO expensive! I think it is like $12 for 1 lb. So I was wondering if that is a normal amount, or if there is somewhere online that sells it for less.
Also, the cake is just going to be Orange, there will be fresh white Orchids put on, but it is not even going to have a colored border or anything. I have looked a little and haven't seen any pre-colored orange, but if anyone has seen it I think that I would be happy to pay the extra to not have to mess with mixing in color. I guess I could always try to mux red and yellow though...
Well, thanks for any help you might have. I am going to go pick up some of the very expensive stuff from my local place this week so I can get a feel for it and make sure that I like it before I buy a whole bunch.
Happy Baking!

The satin ice is wonderful . . . . I won't use anything else after I tried it once and it is worth the extra money. Just make sure that if you add your own coloring to it you practice with it first. Sometimes when I add color, it thins out too much and rips easily when covering a large cake. I don't think with adding orange you will have a problem . . . it is usually only when I have to add a lot of color for darker cakes that I have a hard time. Good luck!!
I used satin ice for the first time this past weekend and I LOOOVEE IT!!! i got mine at intotheoven.com and I got 20 lbs for $64 with the shipping. I ordered it on Wednesday and it arrived on Friday. That part was awesome!
