I am going to be in the Tacoma area this coming week and I wanted to know of any deco stores or cake shops you would recommend to stop and see. I don't think that I will have time to go too far North of Seattle. I have googled a couple of cake/bakeries but asking for recommendations. Maybe do some cake looking and tasting. I think there is one in Fife/Tacoma gonna try to see.

Thanks for your help!

I'm pretty new to this but I did find a cake shop in Seattle off of Roosevelt. She's been there forever and has a great reputation so I went there for some supplies. She was as awesome as I'd hoped! Her shop is stuffed full with all sorts of things (I could have spent the entire day in there but dh was with me and I wanted him to still like me when we were done! lol) Anyway, she spent all the time I needed answering my thousands of questions and was very patient with me.

Have fun exploring and I hope other people post so I know where some others are! icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks for the reply. I printed out that place and am going to try to get up there. I also found a place, Celebrity Cake Studio Bakery in Tacoma. That is next to the Tacoma Dome where my daughter and a friend are going to a concert. I know that Dawn's Candy and Cake is further North. We are on a limited schedule this trip so I was trying to see if there was anything close to where we are staying. Thanks again. icon_biggrin.gif

I hope you like it. She isn't a bakery, she's a supply store (thought I'd better make that clear in case that isn't what you're looking for. I'd hate to cause you to waste a trip!) She has pictures all over and she has a lot of stuff that you just can't find in most of the stores I've been in. She has bunches of Magic Line pans (and even explained the difference between those and Fat Daddios which she also carries.) She has tons of flavor oils, hi-ratio shortening, icing base, americolors, cookbooks, Wilton stuff, and the list goes on and on! I had so much fun in there! Oh, and her prices are pretty good too! Bonus! icon_smile.gif

That sound like one of the stores that I go to in Spokane. It's called Carolyn's Cake Supply and she has alot of stuff and has been there over 25 years. They also have a on-line store. I've gone there for 2 LOL. I've met the daughter and mom who owns the store and just got done with a cake deco class. They are great--wish I had one closer. No that would be a bad idea. LOL. It is fun going to see what everyone has.

I have been to the one one on Roosevelt Way. She is very nice, but the store is really dis-organized looking. I am sure that she knows where everything is, but it is really cluttered. For me, it is worth going if you are close to it, but not worth taking a long trip to get there. Just my 2 cents. Other than that store though I haven't found any others in the area for selling. Bakeries I have no idea...who can afford them LOL.

Mike's Amazing Cakes is in Redmond. (Mike is the deserving winner of several Food Network challenges). I don't know what you can see if you go there, but you would be hard pressed to find a more talented cake decorator:

She is cluttered but I kinda like that type of stuff. It's like a treasure hunt, lol. My husband is a woodworker and there is a store in the U-District called Hardwicks that is old, about three or four times as big as the cake store and so cluttered that you pray there won't be an earthquake while you're in there 'cause if there is you're gonna die! We both love that store! When we found the cake store dh said it's like a Hardwicks cake store and I had to agree! icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks for all your replies. I will be off in the morning. I would like to stop by Mikes but they don't say anything about hours on their web site. It will be about 40 mins North of where I'll be. Which isn't that bad, just have to find the time.

Kellym, how's the cakeboss doing? I did look at your demo briefly. I'll have to check it out further. Thanks again.

I sure have enjoyed this thread, being from Washington, although I am north of Seattle. Now I know of several places to visit when I go down south, which sound fun! Anybody know of any up north?

Update one one of the cake/bakery places I visited. Celebrity Cake Studios in Tacoma just 2 blks S of the Dome. It is a cute little place in the
Freight house Square. Had a slice of carrot cake, cheese cake covered in chocolate and some samples. Yum. The 6" cakes in the display case were cute and colorful and the cup cakes had roses and daisies. There were a few more things I can't remember. And a bunch of albums with pictures--took a quick look. I did not get to any cake supply places yet but did get to see Pikes Market and the Aquarium today. Back at the hotel, so tired from walking up and down stairs. LOL

My dh is from Spokane, and I am hoping that when he gets home from his current deployment that we will get to make a trip to WA to see cake stores, oh, I mean his family (oops, lol). When I am down there I would love to meet any fellow CCer's that are in the area!

Wolfley, remember to mark this page. Those two cake supply stores that I mentioned on pg 1 are the only ones that I know of. The others would be Michaels and Wal-mart (I've looked LOL)

I'll say a little prayer for DH to be safe until he gets home. I know when my son was deployed I was nuts. Now he's at Fort Lewis and my mind is better. usaribbon.gif

We left Lewis in 2005 and came up here to Richardson. Thank you for the prayers.
