I'm trying to make a stand up golfer fondant figure. Something like either of these: http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&meta=search&search=60th%20birthday%20cake&cat=0&pos=41&search=60th%20birthday%20cake
Or here: http://cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&meta=favpics&cat=0&pos=-2080
My figure just fell apart and I have to have this for a b-day tomorrow evening! I'm freaking out here! How can I do this and how can I make hin stand up? Any ideas???? HELP!
Oh yeah and all I have is Wilton fondant............
I don't care - I don't think anyone's gonna eat this guy........ so I just need him to stand up & look cute!
hmmm..
the only thing I can say is try to use toothpicks to attach the arms and head.. and even the legs. good luck
Did you try to PM the people who made them? I would try toothpicks to hold them together.
Definitely support the head, arms and legs with toothpicks. Use gumpaste or fondant with some gumtex in it so it can dry better. I've only made one figure, but I did support it with toothpicks.
Good luck!

hmmmm.
why not have him sitting down near a pond.. with the golf club in his lap.. give it a little humor..(saying something like, it's good being good).. placeing golf ball in hole. This way you can insert the toothpick from the bottom of you figure into the cake and dont have to worry about him falling over.. (since it may take days for a stand up one to dry) Good Luck
I just did my second figure - it didn't turn out too great - I couldn't figure out how to keep the shirt and the pants together. The more I pushed the more wrinkly and cracked the fondant got. HOWEVER.....one thing the person whose cake I was trying to emulate told me was that she used dry spaghetti noodles to keep the feet, arms, hands, head, etc. on. At least it is edible. You might try using thick spaghetti.
Though her figure was sitting, she did use a cookie stick to hold it in the cake as well.
Maybe these ideas will work for you?
thanks guys. I've put some tylose powder w/ fondant and tried to reconstruct my guy using little small skewers..... I'm leaving him overnight and until the party tomorrow evening to dry........he just has to stand up for a little bit for the party.... so keep your fingers crossed! I'll post pics. either Sat. or Sun.!
oh btw - I like the idea of him sitting down - it seems most figures of Sculpey or fondant are sitting - prob. b/c of all these issues - if all else fails though b/c he's already together now - well then I'll go buy that stupid golf figure from Wilton just so there's SOMETHING as a golfer - my golf bag & little golf cart turned out okay so the plastic one will look pretty stupid - but it's better than having no golfer at all!
Thanks everyone for your help!
