Just mixed up a batch of BC and used Wilton meringue, is has a funny taste and is grainny???
Could the meringue have absorbed something from the cabinet it was in. I did not sift because I never sift.
hmm...why did you use meringue..I only use meringue in my whipped cream icing and at times i get the same effect.. were using to much of it.. I just add more powdered sugar and an extra teaspoon of vanilla (not sure why) just trying things out and it worked fine.. Didnt taste grainy nor funny.. bump!
dixiechick,
How old is it, did you have it in a airtight container. I have found that when I boughtwilton brand it seem to get old really fast even in a good container it would get darker, coarse, and taste different. I cant say if it went bad, but aged?
Now I think it could be the crisco made another batch left out merigune opened another bag of sugar still same taste, then my aunt brought me sugar from her house still the same the only thing I think it could be is the crisco, I am so comfused????
Are you using vanilla extract? some cheap ones (with experience) can leave a funny taste.. like an old taste.. and are you sifting your sugar? try sifting your sugar and leaving out vanilla and see what happens..
