Has anyone or does anyone know if I color my yellow cake mix batter what will happen? I am making a round 2 layer cake, one I would like pink and the other blue, I don't have any white cake mix in the house. I am afraid I won't get the right colors with a yellow mix,but don't feel like going out. I think I might have too. Sorry for such a silly question.

I'm not really sure if it would come out wrong with a yellow cake mix. I know with a white one the colors would be true but with a yelllow mix you might come out with green and orange instead of pink and blue. I hope someone can help, and if you go ahead a try it with the yellow mix, let us know how it comes out icon_smile.gif GL

Worst that could happen is that you have to go out and buy white cake after all so you might as well dive in and take the plunge....!

Please let us know what happen. I have a cake to do in September and they want the the cake color to be red. I use yellow cake mix with lots of vanilla and they loved the taste, but I never thought about the color not becoming red. If you end up using white cake mix will the taste be the same?

I have colored yellow cake mix green and it turned out the great. Of course green. You might just had to add extra coloring. Depending on what color you use. I would take a scoop of mix and try it out that way you wont ruin the whole cake. You can alway make it swirl. lol. I hope it works out for you. Let us know and show pictures Please. Good luck

You may be able to get pink if you add Wilton rose. I am not sure about the blue...maybe sky blue or royal blue will work if you add a lot!???!!! icon_smile.gif
