I love this "surprise opening" look .
Any ideas how this is done?
I'd love to make something similar for my friends daughter, she will be 21 this coming Friday

Thanks
Lyn

It looks like after the fondant was put on, they cut elongated triangles from the center and pulled them back. Possibly there was something for the fondant to dry on to hold the shape. For instance, a big straw or something cut into small pieces.

Just a thought.

Ah yes you could be right. icon_smile.gif
Maybe if I lay a dark colour fondant on top of the cake first, then place a small circle of card before laying the second coat of fondant, I'd be able to cut the top layer without cutting the dark layer...if you know what I mean icon_confused.gif

Thank you for helping me out. thumbs_up.gif

If you look at my pictures I have a volleyball with a dolphin shooting out of it and I just cut triangles of fondant and let then dry on tiin foil in a curved way and then placed them on the buttercream and then stuck the dolphin in it. I also did the same thing with the hand shooting out of the cake (also in my pics). Really easy. Cute cake idea, loved the wires coming out!

Thank you.
I wouldn't have thought of just cutting out triangles and drying them on foil.
Your cakes are lovely.
Hope mine will turn out as good

Thanks again
