Our wedding cake won't be made for a few months yet, but I'm trying to decide decorations. We are having a beach theme wine/cheese/dessert reception. Why? Honeymoon will be in Virginia, where we will go to wine tastings and the beach. However, not sure if we want a wine-themed cake, or a beack-themed cake. Don't think grapes will look right with seashells, but I could be wrong. Any opinions? We are serving a spiced red wine we found on vacation this year from Williamsburg Winery, our first tasting together. Decorations will include sand from the quiet beach we will be staying on.

All we have gotten so far is the napkins (tan seashell motif with grape-purple accents) and invitations (grapepurple with starfish).

TIA!
Nichole

Hmmm...I think since you have a beach theme, to go with a beach theme for the cake. Just as with your napkins, you can pull in the wine idea by using wine or grape colored accents on the cake, such as a colored border or ribbon.

Best of luck. I'm helping my sister plan her wedding right now...so much stress!

It sure is stressful! I have gotten wonderful help from members here, and am very thankful! We're doing a small wedding, around 50, at sunset on the river.

Sounds lovely! My sister is also doing an interesting mix of themes. She's having a Key Largo sunset wedding in the back yard of a house on the water...but her theme is fall colors instead of beach or ocean.

OOOOH! Doug, that's so romantic!!! Perfect Idea! Got a quickie sketch? My soon-to-be MIL says "It's not a wedding cake unless it's stacked layers." I can see this on a single layer, but how would it fit stacked? Only needs 50 servings, as we are having other desserts.

and the sketch:

(and as noted in the sketch...the bottle is cake too....so you can "toast" each other on first anniversary)

say a 16" round for base.

10" for next tier

and bottle from 6" and wondermold

Does anyone else want to marry DOUG??
If it weren't for those pesky vows I've already taken....

Wow Doug - you could be getting a few marriage proposals from your friends here on CC - calling all the single gals! (I'm married already icon_smile.gif ) Are you single though? We don't want to step on anyone's toes!!!

I just wish Doug had more pictures of his cakes - they've got to be fabulous considering all of the great help he's given here & his awesome sketches!

I love his idea! If you can't get the wine bottle out of cake though, you might be able to find a decorative one at a party store or something to use as a topper icon_smile.gif Good luck & may your marriage be blessed!!

I might have tried proposing to Doug, but he is so eloquent and creative that his proposal would be MUCH more romantic, so maybe all us gals oughta wait for that icon_twisted.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif But I don't know how Mrs. Doug would feel about it. icon_confused.gif Or our husbands and fiances. icon_confused.gificon_confused.gif But wait! Doug, dear, do you paint toe nails AND do dishes on a regular basis? That could be the deal maker! icon_twisted.gificon_rolleyes.gificon_lol.gif

Imartsy, I think you're right about trying the bottle out of cake. There are "message in a bottle" favor bottles that I will probably buy instead to use. Or a little Martini & Rossi Asti split bottle. Whatever would I do with the champagne? icon_cool.gif

And thank you for the good wishes!
