At the risk of repeating myself, I am going to ask for help in making a personal photo an avatar. I cannot seem to make my photo small enough. It always tells me it is not small enough. I hate to be a bother especially since I have p.m ed a member and asked for help and didn't even get a return message at all. Sooooo that being said if it is too aggravating then please disregard my request. Hate to sound annoyed but no one likes being snubbed!

I wish I could give you specific instructions, but I had to play around with mine for a while to get it to the right size. I think I messed around on my computer for about a 1/2 hour just to get it right. I opened my picture in the "paint" program in my computer, then went to edit, stretch/skew, and just kept making it smaller until it fit. I'm sure there is an easier way. Maybe this will give you a bump so someone can answer it more clearly.

Hi Dordee,
I can tell you how I edit my pictures to reduce them. I'm no expert at it but maybe this will help you. I use Windows XP OS. In my "My Computer" I open the area where my pics are kept. I right click on the file and go to "Edit". Once I am in my edit program "Paint" I click on "Image" and then "Stretch/Skew". Then I start trying different percentages in "Stretch" until I get the right size.

Do you have a photoshop type program? I'm absolutely terrible with it, but after i few tries i can get it small enough to where my pic would be the right size for an avatar.

mhill91801,
Thank you for responding. I didn't even know I could use my paint program to do this. I will try that and hopefully figure it out. I am taking a computer course this semester so maybe I will be more computer savvy in the future. Thanks again!!

Please don't feel that by someone not responding to a message you are being snubbed. As great as the world of technology is, ALOT of messages are never received by the receipient - or - sometimes messages are automatically mistakenly sent to spam folders.

Hope you can get it to work for you.

The size limit for an avatar is 110x110 and below 6K. A member posted this in a another thread...

I use photoshop to re-size my photo. Once i get the size specifications, then I choose "save for the web".This allows me to choose the resolution of the image. So I can have the size i want, but the resolution is adjusted until it's the number of pixels the site will allow. I'm no computer programmer, so I hope that makes sense.

I had to get my DH to help me with mine, and I'm not all that great with these things, but I'll give it a shot. I had to save my photo in my documents, then go and open just that photo. Then at the top tool bar, there was a tab for options (I think) and once I clicked on that I had to scroll down to resize the photo. I typed in the size I needed the photo to be and if I'm not mistaken its 640 X 480 (not sure about the 480) Anyways, when I punched in the 640, it automatically put in the other number and that was it. Then I just had to go to my forum info and upload my photo. Hope this helps and if not, I hope someone who is alot better than me at this can help you. Good luck!

The shrinkpictures site is awesome! Even though I could get the picture small enough on my own, it did not look very good. The shrink pictures took the same picture and it looked great. The last time I looked their avatar tool wasn't working, but you can still do it in the shrink pictures part. After picking out your picture you put in 110 pixels as the maximum. I also click on best picture quality to start with and that usually comes under 6 kb, but if not just go back and click on better picture quality. It usually lists the bytes as mb so anything under 6000mb will work as your avatar. Oh, do go and crop your photo first on your computer.

If you have Microsoft Photo Editor (I think it comes with the basic office package - not sure), open your picture in this program. Then choose Image - Resize, change Units from Inches or CM to Pixels. Then you can adjust the width and height down to 110.
