Hello there! I'm doing a spider-man cake and would like to have the effect of see-thru, colored, cellophane looking, buildings along the sides of my cake.
Is it possible to make see-thru sugar panels ( not too big, approx. 3''x7'' )
out of the sprinkles you use for cookies? I was going to line a small aluminum pan w/ parchment paper and pack the sprinkles down, making individual panels by seperating with skewers. Then bake at 400 degrees to melt and hopefully make a cellophane looking panel. Has anyone done anything like this? Thanks!

hi there, i have made window panels by melting boiled sweets in the oven, just put your skewers where you want them and then put a small boiled sweet in between them, not too close, then put in the oven till they have melted and then take them out and cool, then peel away from the skewers and the backing, works great..
good luck

I would suggest getting clear hard candies (think LifeSavers), break them up, bake on a Silpat at 350* until melted. If you need a window frame, roll out your basic cutout dough about 1/4" thick, cut your frame area, cut out the center and fill the center with the candies. Should work well, I think.

edited to add: if you are using the cookie "frame", I generally bake these on either Silpat or parchment, and I let them cool somewhat BEFORE I remove them from the cookie sheet. HTH.

You can use gelatin too I have seen it done but do not know how you would do it.
