I had no idea what a chocolate transfer was until I joined this site. I read how to do it and understand it but still have a few questions. Does it stay on the cake or is it removed before cutting it. Why do this instead of a FBCT? I guess I just do not know what the pros and cons are. TIA!!

You don't need to remove the ct from the cake when cutting But it will not slice throug like a fbct. It will snap into pieces. I prefer the ct to the fbct only because I have more time in placing the ct on the cake where I want it. I don't have to take it from the freezer to the cake immediately. The fbct has to be placed immediately on the cake before it defrosts. There are pics of both in my photos. The wrestling ring, bingo card and grim reaper are fbcts. The rest are cts. HTH.

I have done a few of each now. At first I didnt like the CT, but now after getting the hang of them, I love it! It really depends on the look you are going for. A CT will be hard, you can stand them up on the sides of cakes or add a lollipop stick to them. A FBCT will defrost on the cake and can be cut nicely. I would probably do a FBCT if I wanted it to lay flat on the top of my cake, but a chocolate transfer if I want hard images. I am doing a pooh cake with chocolate transfers and a smash cake with both FBCT and CT's if you care to check my photos later today or tomorrow...

I guess I can add my smash cake here. I am not done with the other one yet. It is a FBCT on top and the bees are CT's.

I haven't done very many of either, but I would think you could get finer detail with a CT. Also, CT's are yummy!
